189 Days and the start of a better bloggers blog

189 days - Thats how long its been since I've had a blog post. I don't want to even try and calculate how many days its been since I've had a blog post about something interesting...

So can i just wipe the slate clean? can i just start over here? Please?

...No? Well i'm going to anyway...

Starting from next week i'm going to be rediscovering the games that i've been working on over the last year and reflect on the process from conception to prototyping.

Interestingly i think i've spent more time on secondary aspects of whole normal game design process; 3d modelling / 3d printing / puzzle making / prop making. so yeah, theres been some really interesting developments and i can't wait to actually discuss them in the detail that they deserve.

yes, You read correctly...

i've had quite a number of people post kickstarter funding period ask about purchasing the game. i've been handling that on a one to one basis and using paypal for each individual purchase.

...it wasn't ideal but it worked! it wasn't friendly for the customer - sheer determination to get a copy of the game was required...

because of that and many many more reasons - I've finally took the time to update my website and include a very basic webstore for dodgy dealers.

How will it work?

Customers will select a version of dodgy Dealers and select the appropriate shipping charge for that item. at the moment thats just limited to one copy of the collectors edition or two of the base games.

whats left to do?

it still needs some tweaking - atm i've just got the 2 versions of the game online. i'll add the individual add on packs and the very limited number of playmats that i've got left at a later date.

What does the future hold for the store?

well, it works for dodgy dealers but after another kickstarter or two. i'm planning on upgrading the process even further. at the moment i can't justify the price compared to possible outcome. but who knows when that might change!

Announcing Big Man Murph's very first card game... 'Dodgy Dealers'

I've committed to the project and I'm still on track for an october / november kickstarter launch. i'm really, really excited about it.

Heres a quick 'blurb' about it...

"Dodgy Dealers" is a 2-12 player deception/collection card game. Play as an expert Art Dealer that specialises in Black Market trading. Fulfil your contract by collecting works of a specific famous artist's (usually stolen) art. Discover the dirty underbelly of the art world first hand as you wade through a sea of forgeries and unsavoury characters that will do anything to stop you from fulfilling your contract before they do.

It features an unique game mechanic. Players are able to determine which artworks are genuine and which are forgeries by touching and examining them! Genuine Paintings will feel significantly different to an expert Art Dealer.

It also features the art of some of the most famous painters of all time; the core game includes 6 recognisably works by each of the following; Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Edvard Munch and John Singer Sargent."

That's all for today, there's much more I'd like to talk about. The set up / the phases / the tactics / the 'expansions'. I'll pump out a couple of blog posts in relation to those and also in relation to the design process and how I arrived at where I am now.

Heres the official Board Game Geek Page about it: Dodgy Dealers

Until Then,

card game design

I've very recently started working on something that I've always wanted to do... board game design. When I say board games, thats more of an end goal. at the moment what i'm working on are some simpler card games that'll allow me to get my 'foot in the door' and begin to make a bit of a name for myself.

i'm very hopeful about it, aiming for a kickstarter launch of around october / november. once i've at least one successful project done and dusted i think that trust/confidence of backers will be up and i'd be able to be taken seriously. i'd like to get to a stage where i'm knocking out two or three different games a year.

I've a few ideas knocking about at the moment. (the main one being about art dealers!) But its still a bit premature to be talking about it!

Maybe next time,

Big Man Murph.
